Priority Action 3 of the 8th Africa - EU Strategic Partnership has the objective of enhanced cooperation in the use of space applications and technology to support Africa's sustainable development objectives. Space-based systems have a key role to play in this regard. Space applications are by their very nature designed to address regional problems, including monitoring of climate change.
The expected outcomes are to address sustainable development and poverty alleviation by
- Strengthening and developing Pan-African Institutions
- Integrating Space-related issues fully in specific dialogues and cooperation initiatives in areas such as telecommunications and Earth Observation for the environment and resource management, climate change, air safety and navigation, and peace and security
- Developing specific projects (such as telemedicine) based on existing Space technologies and infrastructure to achieve regional and global development goals
- GMES and Africa
